New British Weather Jewellery
Amidst the ongoing chaos of my workbench, I’ve finally found time to photograph the new designs in my sterling silver Rain or Shine collection, which has been inspired by our peculiarly British obsession with the weather, and the classic BBC meteorological symbols of my childhood. Well, I say new designs, but as you can see from previous blog entries and various Instagram shots, I started them quite some time ago!
Really pleased with the way they turned out. I’ve always used eco-friendly recycled sterling silver sheet and wire for my hand forged designs, but I’ve also started to use eco-silver for casting as well. The jewellery industry has such a large ethical and environmental impact, trying to limit that impact as much as I can in my work is really important to me.
Anyway, I’ve got sterling silver and gold vermeil lightning bolts large and small:
Some beautiful gold vermeil, citrine set sunshine earrings:
Shiny little sterling silver clouds for your ears:
Silver and blue topaz April Showers raincloud earrings:
And I think these are my current favourites, my Thunderstorm earrings, with sterling silver clouds, gold vermeil lightning bolts and London blue topaz raindrops:
How cute are they?! Each time I create a new design, I always keep the first one I make for myself, and my silver thunderstorms have been adorning my ears on a regular basis since I finished them.
My eyes have gone a bit funny now from all the photo editing, so it’s back to the workbench for some more custom roller derby jewellery.
